Tinnitus in children

My dd has been complaining of what I think is obviously tinnitus. chattering and beeping and her ears feel fluffy. she often needs the T.V or music on, so she "can listen to real noises"

Its not distressing but is at times distracting and possibly affecting her getting to sleep.

Have made an apt for GP to get her ears looked at incase of wax or fluid and request a hearing test.

can anyone with any experience suggest anything else I need to be aware of or have looked into?

My dd (now age 7) has had glue ear and with that came tinnitus. Once she had grommets in both problems have cleared up.

My dd2 has tinnitus. We were told nothing could be done and at times its heartbreaking. She complains about beeping and muffled sounds and has the t.v up soooo loud. She says it only stops in the cinema Sad
Bedtime is a battle as she finds it hard to switch off and winddown because she says its noisy. We encourage lots of reading and I stroke her hair and try and relax her.
I would love to know if anything could be done too !!
She also had glue ear but was never offered grommets. Is it worth following up ??

Sad crikeybill you poor dd.

I never considered glu ear as I thought at 6 it would have probably not been that but apparently exps partner suggested glue ear too.

She has had loads of hearing tests and although she isn't officially hearing impaired they said the tinnitus makes it difficult for her to hear and that was it. We were sent on our way.
I've googled quite a lot and it would appear that the glue ear can cause scar tissue and this on turn causes the tinnitus. It is horrid and I feel crap I can't fix it. Especially knowing it would drive memad but she's got to suffer it !!!
This thread has made me determined to get her re-refered actually so not all bad. Hope you get somewhere too with your dd. I will come back and update Grin

I suffer from tinnitus and it's horrid. For
Bedtime I strongly suggest a radio. I have to have some noise at night,
Be it classical music, audio book or talk radio. Science makes it worse.

Well My dd was diagnosed with glue ear at age three and has had three sets of grommets put in. The final time they used permanent grommits as she is now seven and the glue ear was still a problem.

The tinnitus she did not seem bothered about, she only mentioned it as an aside one day when she asked me what all the extra beeps and crackles were she could hear.
