ds doesn't seem to eat enough

he is 6 and today he has eaten 2 biscuits,2 forkfuls of chicken and a yorkshire pudding from his roast and 2 boiled eggs and a slice of bread.
he's not a overly fussy eater but what he eats just doesn't seem enough.
does anyone know what the calorie intake should be for a child of 6?

He needs around 1400 calories a day, but this very much depends on things like his height and activity levels. You'll probably find if he goes for a long walk he will eat a lot more. Most children are very good at only eating when they are hungry, if your son is the right weight for his height and he seems healthy, then he's probably getting sufficient calories from his food. You will also find some days he eats a lot more or a lot less than normal, again this is perfectly fine. Try to relax about the quantities, and speak to your HV or GP if you're very worried.

Panic not, my 5 yr old sometimes eats so little I'm scared he'll stop growing, but he's fine and I've learnt to relax about it a bit.

i worked out his bmi i think it was last year and he was just within the normal range.can't remember what it was though.
he's quite active,6 to 7 mile bike ride, including huge hill yesterday,2 mile walk and playing football today.
he's always been a grazer even as a baby with his milk.its impossible to get him to finish a meal when he's saying he's full and gagging and refuses pudding even if offered.I've tried smaller portions. no way is he eating 1400 calories.
ill check his bmi again tomorrow

I think that's pretty par for the course with kids. Assuming he doesn't eat like that every day I wouldn't worry too much. My ds (4) sometimes has days like that but on others I swear he has worms he eats that much.

I've got a DD(4) like this. There is no way you can get her to eat more than she wants to - she starts gagging too.

My older DD is now 8, and has started eating me out of house and home. She used to be like this, so I'd try not to worry too much. Her friends are the same, so I think its all a normal part of growing up.

Also agree with tan that they have eating days and non eating days.

My DS is 4YO and like your DS. I wonder where he gets his energy from. DH and I aren't too worried as it's not as though he eats a mouthful of veg, but would eat say a whole packet of choc buttons because he would still only eat four or five of those. He has the odd day every fortnight where he seems to make up for it though and eats whatever is going! He can't be bothered with dinner as 'he has work to do' and just wants to play.
