DS2 has been plagued with food intolerances since he was a baby.
I BF at first and his bottom was permanently sore. We then changed to formula and his lips became swollen and he developed hives, Soy formula was no better he was constipated for the entire duration on soy formula. Only when put onto a hypoallergenic formula did he start to gain weight. Following this I couldn't take an egg anywhere near him (boiled or fried) until he was 2 years old.
Nowadays he drinks cows milk and eats the occasional egg. I don't notice any problems with him but he has been diagnosed as asthmatic and takes singulair for this. We don't know what causes this but he coughs and wheezes constantly without it.
He loves brown bread, particularly Brown soda bread but this runs right through him. Last week we tried him on a brown seeded batch loaf and he had the same reaction. He eats all cereals for his breakfast; porridge, bran flakes, shredded wheat etc and none of these have an adverse effect.
In comparison to my other 2 children, he's the runt of the litter and I'm often told he looks small (I don't think he does). When we go to the asthma clinic he's only very slightly under average for his age.
Could the intolerance for brown bread be a coeliac issue even though he tolerates other things? Should I pursue this with the GP and if so, how do I argue my case?
