Bleeding finger advice! Heeeeeelp

Dc5 age 2 has sliced his pointy finger on a tape measure (don't ask)
It bled like buggery as fingers do.
It keeps re starting.
It's quite a big cut on such a little finger but would still be classed as superficial.

I have cleaned it, elevated, applied pressure.
Can't fit more than a plaster on it.

They don't stitch cuts on the pad of a finger o they?
It's too small a surface for steri strips

Can Amy medical people give me an opinion?
Do I just keep doing the same thing if it starts up again?

Forgive my patheticness. I do have my reasons

No idea, but bumping for you. Minor injuries unit? Poor thing. X

Superglue, but I'm guessing it might be special medical grade stuff.

CaptainHetty · 30/08/2012 19:25

Ouchie, poor thing.

When my daughter trod on something (still have no idea what it was) she sliced the padded bit on her toe and it bled everywhere. ExP took her to a&e, they didn't stitch it but they did wrap and bandage it to stop it bleeding any more and keep it clean. Might be worth getting it checked?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/08/2012 19:30

I was thinking of glue but fingers crossed it stops cos I don't wanna go to miu.

He appears 'stable' (medical jargon)

i would do as you have done, when it bleeds how much is it bleeding? they may glue it i guess? but you can bet if you go the hospital it will stop just as you get there!

i would apply pressure and hold it. anyway you can kind of bandage it up so there is pressure on it? is it the tip of the finger? was it a metal tape measure? they are suprisingly sharp, the boys like to play with dps' one but there is a button you press and it whizzes the 'tape measure' back into the case and it goes at speed and i am always paranoid it will cut their fingers off!

My DD (aged 8 at the time) did the same thing - not with a tape measure, but with a pair of scissors - eek!

Poor thing was in agony so I took her to GP. Nurse dressed it and I had to take her back every day for five days to have the dressing changed. Obviously it couldn't be stitched as part of the pad was missing, but it healed well.

Yes, A&E.

How is he now, Mrs D? Did he go to sleep okay? Did it stop bleeding?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/08/2012 22:13

Thank you for asking :)
Seems ok. He is entirely untroubled by it. He is that sort of kid. He runs around giggling in the middle of an asthma attack Hmm

It's stopped and I hope that means it won't start again. He will have a scar but it won't be the first or the last.

He is the most adorable child but is on the boisterous side :)

Thanks for humouring me. I do need a lot of reassurance. Blush

oh glad it seems ok, scars are cool, battle wounds! :)

Fiveflowers · 31/08/2012 20:39

Aw, he sounds great, very brave! Finger wounds hurt a lot because of all the nerve endings there, so if he's unbothered it's a good sign.

Glad he's ok. Scars are cool, they tell stories.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 31/08/2012 20:47

Good job, he's got loads! Grin

Bless him
