My 5 year old DD spent months last year constantly clearing her throat and complaining of being itchy. I went to the doctors with her lots of times with it and they refused to refer to allergy tests saying she had just developed a habit. We had a break from it for a few months but now its back and I really need to help her. It is really awful. She is constantly itchy, scratching nose and clearing her throat. Other people comment on it all the time and its awful for her. Ive been giving her piriton for the last 2 days but its had not effect. How can I get the doctors to treat/diagnose her?? Anyone else had this? People say she sounds like a horse. Any ideas? Any homeopathic ideas? Anything?

Have you any ideas what is causing it? Maybe you could keep a diary to see if it gets worse after certain foods or exposure to pollen etc.

There's an allergies board so you could try posting over there for more help.

There's NICE guidelines for GPs regarding referrals for allergies, I'm sure someone could link it.

please note the time of year when symtoms are at most apparent.
that will help pin point a more environmental allergy cause.
for instance, spring is tree pollen season, summer hay fever, autumn molds, and of course all year round is the common dustmite allergy. does your child snore, they shouldnt, and if do it can indicate rhinitis.

antihistamine just taken for 2 days will have very little effect. try a normal daily non sedating antihistamine and see if things get better after two weeks or longer.

if food cause is normally apparent very soon after eating.

other thing to bear in mind that sometimes food intolerencs can result in itchy throat and tummy aches.
so you need further medical advice to confirm what you are dealing with, so I 2nd other persons advice to ask for medical help. most gps can do a blood test,(a RAST) , or ask for refferal to allergy clinic.
