17 week old with tickly cough. Can I give her anything to help?

That's it really. My 17 week old EBF DD has caught my cold! I thought that wasn't supposed to happen :( She has a slightly snotty nose but far more irritating for her, she has a tickly cough that's waking her up. Is there anything that people would recommend I give her? She doesn't have a temperature so I'm not sure if Calpol is appropriate? I did think of propping her up a bit but she took a nap today in her bouncy chair and still woke herself up coughing :( she normally sleeps from about 7.30 til 7 (yes I know how lucky I am) but is a horrible daytime napper so I really want her to have a good night tonight.

Hi, my EBF baby had a cold about then too, but it probably will get better quickly as your milk is helping your baby fight it off.

There's v little you can give at that age. Nothing with honey till 1+ and nothing stronger until 2+, if they have a high temp then Calpol can help, and see the GP if nothing improves after a week. See them quickly though if there's a fever.

What you can do is try to relieve the snottyness and dryness (which causes the cough). Keep feeding and offer extra feeds; prop up the head of the cot; use a humidifier or take your baby into a steamy bathroom before bed (you'll need to change their clothes after), saline drops are good, as is kids olbas oil on a hankie near their head but out of reach.

Good luck.

FeelanceMama thank you. They're all great tips. She actually slept through and seems to be back to just being snotty. I'll store those tips up though!

Oh that's good news. Actually, I've just been to the shop this morning and Tixylix does a tickly cough (apple flavour) medicine for 3 months plus, although there are some warnings about reactions to sugars (there's a lot of glycerine in it).

Teeny bit envious about the sleeping through - although pleased for you - our son is 7 months old now and the longest he's gone is 8 hours, unfortunately 4 of those were before we went to bed!
