Who can approve medical treatment for my child if I am not present?

Next weekend, I'm going abroad to see DP who is currently working in Germany. I'll be gone for four days and DS will be staying with my mum, then DP's sister (not a blood relative) and his childminder (who I've signed to say she can advocate for emergency medical treatment etc as part of her care, but she won't be looking after him as CM but as a friend - she's not registered for overnight care and I'm not paying her.)

So, in an emergency, would my mum be able to consent to medical treatment for DS or is it best if I give her a signed note or something? His dad hasn't seen him for over a year and I don't have a reliable way of contacting him.

He's stayed overnight before but I've always been in the country Shock Has anyone done this before? What's the best thing to do?

Give them a note to say that you consent for them to act in your absence to authorise all medical treatment, date and sign it and put all names in

Would you be contactable by phone?

If your DS needs emergency medical treatment that wont be withheld.

I would most likely be contactable by phone, yes.

That's good to know. What about something which isn't life threatening but couldn't really wait? Would that be the same?

I'll probably do a note just in case!
