toddler with a colostomy - any tips on choosing a larger bag?

My 3yo ds has had a colostomy for a year. Currently using Hollister Pouchkins drainable. The best I've found so far, although recently they've started coming unstuck so am sticking them on with extra tape.

Am trying to find a slightly larger bag as the pouchkin gets quite full these days, it's got no filter so windypops are a problem and its see-through - what's that all about?!

I think he should be able to have a bag where his poo isn't on show if his top rides up.

Have just today tried a dansac novalife bag. Just a bit bigger, a filter and opaque. Ideal! But......as I am still sticking the bag on so the opening is at the side, it hangs down below his top now.

Should I stick it on like adults do i.e opening pointing

I am only familiar with adult stomas and my knowledge is a bit out of date - have you got a stoma nurse that can help you find the best option for him?

Stupid phone........opening pointing downwards? I'd need to tuck it into his waistband, so surely that'd block it from filling up?

This is doing my head in as I feel the provision for kiddies is really limited. I have tried bag covers, but they seem to weigh the bag down and don't stay on.

Any handy hints would be appreciated :)

Thanks......paediatric stoma nurses are like gold dust and the one we saw at gosh was pants. There's no substitute for practical mum advice sometimes I think. Our assigned stoma nurse deals with adults in the main

I agree that tucking it into his waistband is asking for a disaster. How low on his abdo is it sited? Getting it somewhere that won't show if his top rides up, and doesn't get tucked in his waistband - are higher waisted trousers a la Simon Cowell an option?

Or layering a tucked in tshirt underneath a looser shirt to cover him a bit. Or get much longer tops and have them taken in a bit? Just trying a bit of lateral thinking...

He has a vesicostomy for his urine too which goes straight into his nappy, so can't pull his trousers high up as it rubs his vesicostomy if he runs about too much - which is all the time, being 3!

Anyway, yes we do try to get longer tops which used to cover his smaller bag.

I guess I thought I had found the answer with this new bag, but it throws up different probs. I know nothing will be perfect, so maybe I am expecting too much..........
