DD9 Panic Attacks....

upset as my dd 91/2 has been having PA's. first few times (always usually in a restaurant, suddenly feeling ill and having to get out, fine once home) i thought perhaps she genuinely had a tummy upset etc but the last few have been too obvious to someone with hands on experience of such things. i have been blighted with the fuckers since around the age of 5 even though i rarely get them but they are always there lurking in the background, and no, never discussed the subject infront of dd, she has no idea about them or that i have had one etc. not sure what to do, tricky/complicated thing to deal with even though i know literally how they are making her feel. i know if they carry on and curtainly if they get worse i will have to go to the dr, possibly a therapist or cbt. i never had help for mine, dealt with them myself but am so worried. she is a happy confident child. i don't think worrying about anything, i asked her if she had anything on her mind and she says no and i believe her. just wondered if anyone else has experienced their child having nerve problems. she had to leave the cinema last week because of a nervous attack, her friends mother had to call me to collect her from the cinema :(

Not sure how to advise but just wanted to say that I sympathise. I sometimes have PAs too. Perhaps talking about it with her would help. She must be terrified, perhaps thinking there's something really wrong with her. If she knew it was common, and you have been there too, maybe she could relax a bit about them. Or at least know that it's nothing to feel ashamed of.

My dd (7) is a very anxious child, with several phobias. I'm kind of expecting her to have a PA at some point. Hope not though.

Hope things improve soon.

When my DD began having PAs she was very scared there was something wrong with her. My GP explained that it was just her body getting a bit overexcited and that whatever she did the feeling would soon go away because it would get tired. We didn't mention the word Panic Attack to her because that term was too scary in itself.

Knowing what is happening to her has meant she finds them much more manageable and she has had none over the summer holidays which is lovely.
