Vulva/ labia - sore and colour

My 4 year old DD often has an itchy vulva (which part is actually itching, I'm not sure). It often looks red and sore. It's not her knickers as it'll itch whether she's clothed or not. I took her to the GP, who dismissed it as nothing.

Despite being female myself, I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to these things, having only one DD! Any ideas why it might be itchy? Her bottom doesn't seem to itch. Also, what colour should it all be? I'm presuming just plain old flesh colour inside labia, as opposed to redish inside?

Thanks all.

may it be thrush -try clotrimizole cream (canestan)a yeast infection that thrives in dark damp places
does her urine smell and look pale straw colour perhaps if it is smelly she has urine/kidney infection
or what about a skin condition like eczema
go see another gp and tell them its drivingyou both nuts -thats a shame the gp didnt listen sometimes i think dr's are very good at fobbing people off-though i appreciate there are a few hypocondriacts out there but you cant make up sore redness
stop using bubble bath use only emulsifying ointment to wash -and a gentle fabric non bio powder -no softner
good luck with finding out the root problem but it seems you may have to sort it out yourself if gp dissmissive

how can the GP dismiss it as nothing when it's bothering her??? that's awful :(

i would stop using any bubble baths etc in case that is irritating her, and then go back and see a different GP. it could be thrush

It sounds like vulvovaginitis, it's really common ( www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/factsheets.cfm?doc_id=3726 ) and usually caused by soap, bubble bath or laundry soap.
