I'm new and don't know appropriate abbreviations but my 7 year old son has developed something on his left shoulder blade, the only way I can describe it is kind of looking like a spread out love bite?! I don't know if it's a rash and I've done the rolling a glass over it and it didn't go away.

He isn't unwell in any other way and doesn't remember scratching it or something hitting him in that area.

I'm keeping an eye on it to see if it spreads but was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar??

Could another child have done it?

We had something similar a few weeks ago, dd1 had a odd mark on her shoulder, she didn't know how it got there, she also had a bit of a fever so i phoned out of hours doc who wanted to call an ambulance as the mark did not fade under a glass and dd1 had a temp. In the end i took her to the hospital to be checked over, doctor could not work out what it was so they sent us home, a few hours later i caught dd1 sucking her arm Grin.

If he has no other marks on him and seems ok in himself then i wouldn't worry too much, if he's poorly then phone NHS direct or take him to the doctors tomorrow.

If it's not a rash could be bruising but worrying if he didn't remember hurting himself and if it's that big he would remember that. I'd call nhs direct. Doesn't sound normal though have to say if it's spreading quickly a&e!!!!

Thanks for your replys. It doesn't appear to be spreading and he's still feeling ok so it maybe just some mystery markings. It's not in a position for him to have done it himself. Although he has just informed me that him and his class mates were jumping on top of each other today at school! This may be the cause!

I just freaked when it didn't go away under the glass!

Is it anywhere near where his seatbelt would be? DS1 had a pinprick 'rash' when he was younger from his seatbelt once. I must have stopped suddenly (or he did it himself when he was having a tantrum in his seat Hmm )

It is at that side, that could be the source! Been watching him like a hawk for the past hour and nothing has changed so I think I can stop panicking now. Just always tend to think the worst when something appears on the skin.

Well I dragged an extremely chirpy and obviously not ill DS1 to the doctor for his seatbelt 'rash' so don't feel bad! Grin
