Signs of Chicken Pox? ... 2 days before our holiday

DD (almost 17 months old) has developed a number of blistery red spots on her face, back and tummy. I noticed the first one Monday night, then yesterday a few more developed. This morning she had several more (maybe two dozen in total). No fever or flu-like symptoms yet and she's incredibly cheerful, but I know chicken pox has been going around in our area, so I have a feeling it might be her turn. And we are supposed to head to Wales for a week on Friday. :(

I'm going to take her to the GP later today or tomorrow, but I don't suppose there's any chance the worst will be over within the next two days?

For those of you with experience here: when does the real discomfort kick in, and how long does it last? For how long did you keep your LO quarantined?

Thanks!

Check if GP actually wants her to come in. It could expose people who shouldn't be.
Sounds like CP.
2 of my kids were fine with CP: lots of spots & completely well in themselves. No other signs of illness, yours may be the same.
My kids who had a hard time with CP were already feeling ill before I realised it was CP.
The MN advice about quarantine is to wait until the spots have fully scabbed over, usually 5 days or so after you first notice the spots.

Could you just keep her away from people in Wales, for first few days? Is it a self-Catering cottage, maybe?

We took DD2 away to centreparcs on the day she developed chickenpox and just kept her indoors away from other people there and took it in turns to go out with DD1 to do things (she had already had it). It was a little hard going on us but beat not being able to go away at all and all in all not too bad. It probably helped that DD2 was only 9 months old at the time and not worrying about missing out mind you!!

DD has chicken pox and she seems to be feeling fine, she's currently chalking on her face Hmm

If its a Self catering thing i'd go as planned and keep her away from other people for the first couple of days.

I believe current HPA advice is to quarantine (which includes avoiding gp surgery. Not necessary imo unless appears to.be infection in which case phone ahead) for the first 5 days.

This means you that you can be out and about on Sunday.

If you accomodation is self contained (i.e cottage or caravan) personally I would go. Get settled in accomodation and plan to do the fun stuff later in the week.

Oh and the poorly part of chickenpox usually comes before the spots.

We did book a self-catering cottage. I think at this point, our plan is to keep DD home through the weekend, see how she's doing on Sunday and then, if she's much better, travel on Monday afternoon. This is the best we can do logistically because I also have to go for a glucose tolerance test (am 28wk pg with DS) and it turns out Monday is the only day I can go do that. Busy times! But fingers crossed we'll get at least a short holiday rather than none at all.

So far, DD seems to be coping well. Hope she continues on that track.

Thanks, everyone.

Ah this could be me posting, DS c/o headache Mon, bit off yesterday & noticed faint spots behind ear & on tum today - we are booked for 2 nights in Suffolk for DH birthday Sun & Mon.

Will be staying in hotel & weather fab so are banking on few spots, and hiding DS on beach away from everyone....Blush

Normally wouldn't mind missing out but this is the first time we'll have seen DH's Mum since his Dad's funeral 2 months ago, and managed to get a hotel for carnival weekend.....why oh why now, when DS has been in contact with contagious kids at least a dozen times in his 6 years on this planet!
