2yo DD2 has threadworms AGAIN - second time in about six weeks

Treated her and the rest of us (me, DP and 6yo DD1) about six weeks ago and did a thorough clean f the house, washed all bedding, towels, toys etc and followed hygiene rules for two weekas after treatment. Worms disappeared from her poo and I thought that was the end of it until today when I discovered a few more after she pooed in the potty (uses loo usually so haven't really seen her poo recently!)

We had two doses of Ovex left so have given those to DD1 and DD2, will get more meds tomorrow for me and DP. Changed all bedding, towels, PJs etc and will do deep clean again tomorrow.

In the meantime, does anyone have any tips for eradicating the blighters? I suspect that DD1 can't have been fully clear of them the first time and therefore got reinfected, despite my best efforts. She's not been in nursery or in contact with other children particularly over the last few weeks, so don't think they're coming from outside.

We only did one dose of Ovex last time but I think we'll try two doses two weeks apart this time.

She's not bothered by them which is a bonus, but obviously it's not a pleasnat thing to have.

When we lady had to use ibex I think it said to repeat the dose after 7 days. I might be remembering wrong though. Maybe check the box and see what it says?

I think my lot get them from messing around in the mud. You have to cut their nails short, wash their hands and bums straight away on waking. I make mine wear pants to bed as there's less chance of them scrsatching in night. Did you do bedding and towels on hot wash? Have they got their own towels.
My dd always seems to need a 2nd dose.

I hate hate hate them and we get them about twice a year. Sad

I refused us all two weeks later. Fingers crossed, but that seemed to work.

Sigh, iPhone malfunction.
That would be redosed, not refused!

Defineme - they wouldn't get threadworms from mud. They are a human parasite, so only live in the human digestive system, not in mud or animals. But the eggs are tiny enough to be invisible and can stay dormant for a long time in house dust, on towels etc before getting onto fingers and into mouths, then hatching once they are inside the body.

I thought the leaflet said their eggs are everywhere-air earth and so, but I tend to read it in a swearing rush so I'll take your word for itGrin

The eggs can get everywhere in the house, but you wouldn't expect to find them outside: See the transmission section of the Wikipedia article. Much more likely to get them from a towel or teddy bear.

Thanks for your quick replies.

Defineme, yes, I did all of those things - washing hands and bums on waking, own towels, hot wash bedding, damp dusted and vacuumed EVERYWHERE, cut nails etc... DD1 still has a nappy at bedtime and is in a sleeping bag in a cot, so has no access to her bum!

Exexpat - I too understood that the eggs can land just about anywhere, so whilst the worms live in humans, the eggs spread via the air and land on anything and everything. I was told that the sand pit and playdough are major harbourers of eggs. Gross.

On the Ovex instructions, it says you can repeat after two weeks, but not usually necessary.
