3 year old doesn't wee very much

DS2 is just 3 and for a while now I've been wondering if he doesn't wee as much as he should. About 18 months ago he had a mystery illness which presented as a lot of squirming and crying in pain and some vomiting, but no temperature. The GP couldn't find anything diagnosable and didn't think his tummy was sore, but I noticed at the time he wasn't producing very wet nappies so I thought it might be a UTI and made (begged) the GP give me some antibiotics for him as he was so distressed. Since then, I've tried hard to get him to drink regularly but he's not very interested in drinking. He'll have about 200ml of milk first think in the morning and just before bed, and maybe 2-3 small cups of water or dilute squash during the day, or sometimes he prefers milk during the day too (e.g. if in a cafe, he doesn't usually like squash or juice from cafes). Often I have to persuade him to drink this much. He can go a whole morning or afternoon with just one nappy change and often the nappy isn't very wet when I change it. But at other times he can do mammoth wees which leak out.

Anyway, he's been randomly sick again, a couple of times last week and again today, and again I thought his nappies were not getting very wet, but apart from that he's been fine in himself.

My questions are: 1) does this sound in the normal range of weeing, or should I be getting him checked out? and
2) If he doesn't wee that much, will this cause problems with potty training? We have just started, and he's had more success with poos than with wees, because he sits there and nothing comes out.

I found that my DS did fewer but bigger wees as he got older. He is 4 next month and does maybe 3 wees in 24 hours. He has great bladder control and was dry at night as soon as we started potty training.

dunno if this helps but when i toilet trained my eldest (he was about 2 and 3 quarters) i was suprised how less often he needed to go to the toilet, i thought they wee all the time from the way people speak about potty training! but he just didnt, and afaik he is healthy and doesnt have any problems with that he just has a strong bladder maybe? if we go out he will go the whole day without going to toilet

This is pretty much what my Iz does and its all normal. She has about 140 mls of milk in the morning and same at night but then doesn't drink an awful lot during the day, the odd sip here and the odd sip there. This was something I used to worry about alot but she's healthy and fine in herself. Does yours seem de hydrated at all? It also depends what your feeding them as they do get fluids from food too. I try to give my Iz more fluid by giving her yogurts, cucumber and things like watermelon
