Asthma ... Help, docs or a&e?

Brief background, DS is 22mo, diagnosed with asthma early at 14mo after lots of hospital admissions and family history. he is on brown inhalers daily and blue as required
I'm used to dealing with his asthma with the help from the asthma nurses and his plan but today in just in two minds what to do.

He started with a cough 2 days ago (started his blue inhalers) it's gradually got worse, last night he was very wheezy but not struggling too much, 8 puffs on blue then went to bed and seemed less wheezy.

He has woke up around 8 times in the night just crying, (really unusual for DS as normally sleeps through) so done inhalers through the night.
He is breathing very fast this morn and tugging on his neck and ribs, and coughing a lot.
Before I gave him his inhalers he was taking 64 breaths per min which is very high, although has calmed down a bit now since inhalers

Do I wait for the docs to open at 9, or go to a&e!??? Help!

yeay!

There is usually a regular "parents of asthmatics" thread that starts up in autumn...keep an eye open. Its a great place for advice on "eek what do I do now" . Full of us long suffering parents, and even after all these years, we still have trouble deciding what to do at times.

Really glad he is home. Maybe a nice nap thisafternoon for you both? :D

There is an asthma thread bouncing around I will try to find if now!

Can you point me in the direction of the asthma thread?

I HAVE found that DS2's asthma improved once I bought a HEPA air filter for his room and started running it every night.

I also freeze his pillow and teddies once a week to kill any dust mites.

And Hoover his mattress daily.

He still ends up on pred or in hospital at least twice a year and he is nearly 9yo. He was the youngest child dxd at my local hospital in 30 years, he was just 7mo when he was dxd and given his first inhalers.

He has been admitted 6 times by then, and almost died twice.

I was told to look for 'intercostal dip', and that means blue light to Children's Ward, he has open door so he doesn't have to go through A&E.

I'm glad your DS is home, OP. it's so scary to see your child unable to breathe.
