How quickly can chickenpox develop?

DS (21m) was exposed to chickenpox unwittingly on Tues. Today he's woken with a temp of 39 degrees, but all the google searches I've done indicate that he's likely to develop it from 10-21 days after exposure. Is this something random, or can cp develop that quickly?

I think it was pretty quick here - a sign went up at pre-school on the Monday saying there had been a confirmed case of shingles and we found the first spot on DD Tuesday evening. Don't know exactly what point she got infected of course.

good luck with it chihiro. Gawd if this is it...I thought I was going to have longer to get supplies in and hunker down!!

Although you know that he was in contact with someone that has got chicken pox on Tues, you dont actually know if you walked past someone in the street with it a week ago IYSWIM.

We had chicken pox parties in the hope all the toddlers would catch it. My DD didn't but came down with it totally out of the blue a couple of months later.

Good luck

Thanks - that was actually a few weeks ago, so thank goodness that is done and out of the way! Yes, I would definitely get supplies in now if you can just in case. Good luck and hope it isn't too bad.

good point doinmummy. Can't see any spots but he's hot and miserable, poor little thing.

dd came down with the pox two weeks after contact.
ds 20 days after dd.
Yesterday dh came out covered in spots, and confirmed by doctor today as chicken pox, total time from dd's spots has been 46 days.

doinmummy · 12/08/2012 17:16

Poor thing...it's a nasty one is chicken pox. I was smothered in spots, hair, mouth, bum, minnie etc. My sister had 2 spots but felt just as ropey as I did.

crazypaving · 12/08/2012 17:42

blimey patty that's about as long & drawn out as it gets, surely Confused

Oh gawd if it is cp I have fingers firmly crossed for as few spots as poss...don't want itching misery and scarring.

I wonder if this can be it, or just a red herring? Not sure what to do about plans tomorrow - would feel really bad if it was cp and we spread it round...

I wouldn't stress about it, if his temp has gone down and he is well, I would go with your original plans, he may not even get them.

dd2 is dd in my op, but dd1 had them four years ago and neither dd2, ds or dh caught them from her.

dh is bad far worse than the kids. Its has been 24 hrs and he is totally covered from the tips of his fingers to his toes.

crazypaving · 13/08/2012 10:51

He's pretty snotty and his temp is variable, so wonder if it is just a red herring. No evidence of pox anywhere...but I'm worried if I head to a baby group this afternoon the temptation for fate will just be far too much, and I'll wake up to a join-the-dots toddler tomorrow morning!!

aaarrgghhhh dd2 has them again, 2nd time in six weeks, I noticed a few on her stomach this morning. Phoned NHS direct who said its extremely doubtful take her docs. They have confirmed that she has them.

When she had them six weeks ago they weren't mild either.

throckenholt · 13/08/2012 14:42

My ds 2 & 3 came out in spots 7 days after DS1. DS1 had been at least 2 weeks since exposure.

crazypaving · 14/08/2012 10:26

oh no patty you poor thing! THat's unbelievable Confused Good luck with it.

Thanks throckenholt. DS's temp is down but he's still ratty with a very short fuse. No doubt he'll come out in spots on day 21....
