My son is currently battling virus / maybe getting tonsillitus again - had v. high temperature since last night.

Currently doing with nurofen and calpol however I only have 6plus in the house. Do you think he us ok taking it? He is 5.6, weighs 3stone 5 and is 116cm tall -all in the size of the average 6/7 year old - also has size 13 feet, so not a minute 5 year old.

I am sure I had read somewhere a lot of these doses are based on weight more than age, and age is just a guide......

TIA

Or you could give him slightly less than the stated dose?

But yes, the doses are based on average weight.

Hope your Son is feeling better soon

It's the same stuff, just a stronger solution. Give him the doseage for a 6 year old but err on the mean side with how full you make the spoon.

I would just give him a bit less than the stated dose.

DS is only 2 and have been prescribed "6plus" strength calpol by the hospital with a dose calculated by his weight so him having it is fine it's just getting the dose right.

When ds was ill he wouldn't take any medicine. The dr prescribed 6 plus calpol, he was 2/3 at the time, as it is more concentrated so I could give him a smaller amount of liquid with the same dosage as if he had taken the other version.

Ds gets calpol 6 plus prescribed every now and then for tonsillitis and has done since he was 2. The dosage given was based on weight so I think you'd be fine.

Infant calpol contains 120 mg of paracetamol per 5 ml, and calpol 6 plus contains 250 mg of paracetamol per 5 ml. So just give a half dose of 6 plus. My dd's were having two spoons of infant calpol at 5 and a half, so one spoon of 6 plus would be almost equivalent.

My DD who is 6 months has tonsillitis at the moment Sad when I spoke to a doctor he said the 5ml spoon isn't actually 5ml, in order to give them 5ml's it's more like just under the big end and just under the small end. Unless your using a syringe.
