Is he damaging his teeth?

My DS is a year old and has four teeth - the usual top and bottom two incisors - and I've noticed white patches on the cutting edges of them. Everyone knows milk teeth are softer than adult teeth, and we've all seen the tooth in the glass of coke experiment to know how soft they are but I'm a bit worried as to what the patches are and why he has them. Is it calcium related (he has a good diet), or actual damage?!!! He loves his teeth being cleaned - thankfully! - and has them cleaned twice daily. He's recently discovered how much he likes to grind them together though and, while the sound is horrendous, my bigger concern is that he may actually be grinding them away, hence the white marks. If so, surely once the enamel is damaged, the teeth are at real risk. Really worried!!!

It is never too early to take DC to the Dentist to be checked out. It will set your mind at rest and DC will accept twice yearly visits as a norm.

That's what I was thinking too, I was taken from a very early age so it's never phased me, although I've been fortunate enough to avoid any nasty problems to date. We've moved recently and DH and I need to find a new dentist so it seems like the opportune time to add him on. Thanks greenhill.
