Will DD be immune to chickenpox?

I had shingles whilst pregnant, does this mean in effect DD has already had chickenpox? An out of hours doctor I saw at the time said she wouldn't get chickenpox but would instead get shingles, but he sounded rather unsure! Grin

No. Afraid not. You will have passed on immunity to chicken pox (as does any immune mother regardless of BF/FF) for about 4-6 months, but then she will be non-immune as normal.

Darn it! Yes, the doctor was rather hopeless. Also prescribed some medication which carried the warning to not take during pregnancy, which thankfully I spotted!

Aciclovir is fine in pregnancy (guessing that's what you were given). Almost all medicines say they are not safe in pregnancy, but that's because no company in its right mind is going to do drug tests on pregnant women, so everything has to balance out the theoretical risk of a medicine with its known benefit.

Of course, that makes sense. Was a couple of years ago, so I can't remember the drug. Called the surgery the next day and was prescribed something else.
