Allergic reaction to amoxicillin

My son was diagnosed with an ear infection and put on a course of amoxicillin he got a rash everywhere and then when I went back to the doctors they said its throat not ears! And that he was having an allergic reaction to the antibiotic but nothing to worry about if I changed to a different one, he then broke out in blisters all over his hands and feet which have no cleared up but has had horrific diarrhoea since (3 weeks) the doctor finally gave me an appointment after me contacting every day and them telling me it wasn't anything to worry about! Have now sent off poo samples awaiting results....Has anyone had this reaction to amoxicillin?

The only known reason for a rash with amoxicillin is when I had glandular fever which takes months to show up in a blood test. Until it did, they tried everything with me.
This rash was the marker in my case.

But I'm sure lots of things cause it.
The blisters could be hand foot mouth, and coincidental.
How old is he?
Not really got much more to say but didn't want you to go unanswered

My daughter had a similar reaction to flucloxicillin when she was 3. Tablets were stopped immediately and she is not to have it again as next time the reaction could be worse.
This also goes for creams as it can be absorbed through the skin.

I work with someone who had this exact reaction to amoxicillin about 3 weeks ago! Seems more than a coincidence, I'd contact gp as its likely to be an allergic reaction of sorts!

I get the same with amoxicillin and also had it with one I was given on holiday once so no idea of the brand of that one. Have had a different one since and was fine with that though.

Apparently I was given it a lot as a child and was fine. First time I had it as an adult I ended up with a rash everywhere except my face (thank god!).

It didn't come straight away though. Started a few days later and just spread really slowly but continuously over the course of a couple of weeks.

The doctor gave me something for it, can't remember what it was 'helpfulface' but it worked.

I was told the same about the reaction potentially being worse next time but I think that's the case for most allergic reactions tbh.

Try not to worry too much, it's very common and there's plenty of others you can try.

Hope he feels better soon Smile

They did suggest it could be hand foot and mouth but ruled that out in the end! I don't know what it could be and I don't think they do just wondered if it was common or not the doctors have been useless!
