DD1 went to bed last night but reappeared a few mins later to say that she had a sore patch just below her bottom lip. When I looked there was a small (0.5cm) white welt type thing. She said it was really stinging. It didn't look like anything I've seen before other than perhaps a bite of some sort. I put a bit of aloe vera gel on it to try and calm the stinging. She also said it felt moist to the touch (before the gel went on!). Anyway, she went back to bed but when she woke this morning the patch had developed into a scab. She says it no longer hurts, but I'm just wondering what the hell it is?

Anyone any ideas?

Impetigo?

DeWe · 31/07/2012 12:48

Another vote for impetigo. She needs to be seen by a doctor.

Sorry for delay in replying. I did wonder about impetigo, but it doesn't look at all like that. The scab is like a light covering, like the sort of thing you would see with a friction burn.

My DD has had impetigo in the same spot as you describe and sounds exactly the same moist and white, and then a light scab, then it might go moist again - I think impetigo is a name given to a range of skin infections and if it is this she needs an antibiotic cream to clear it up.

Hopefully not, but I wouldn't discount it, and if it gets any bigger I would definitely get it seen by GP just to be sure.........

My DS had impetigo once. On his chin. And what got me mad was the school knew there was an outbreak and didn't tell anyone. I knew somebody who was a TA there and she said in a snooty voice 'it's not a notifiable disease' Angry But it cleared up really quickly with the cream from the doctor. So I'd go to the doctors if I were you.

my dd1 suffered from impetigo a few times and it does look a bit like a friction burn and it is moist.

Keep it really clean, get others to use different towels, keep washing her pillow case each morning and on a hot wash. And most important get her in the habit of not touching her face and when she does wash her hands - all this will hopefully help to stop spreading.

Then get a gp appointment and they can give her AB to get rid

Thank you all. Have got a GP app in the next hour for DD, so hopefully it will be sorted one way or another. Will report back with final diagnosis!

Walked into GP's office and I said I think D may have impetigo. The GP took one look and said she was just about to say that, so was glad I'd already mentioned it. Gave her AB cream.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
