DS1(8) has started being travel sick in cars and buses over the last year. What is the best medicine to give him before journeys please?

I remember using Joyrides when I was a child - dont know about any others though

lilbreeze · 31/07/2012 14:15

Joyrides don't seem to work for my dd(4) but Traveleeze are brilliant - from Boots.

lilbreeze · 31/07/2012 14:17

By the way, 8 seems late to start getting car sick. Has he started doing anything different on car journey in the last year? Eg. reading, games, dvds?

Only thing that has worked for both my young son and myself are tablets called travel calm from boots. Excellent product!

I think my DS has started to get this....he's almost 4 and a has been sick a couple of times in the car, and has mentioned his tummy a few times after being in the car. I used to be horrendously travel sick and found joy rides made me feel worse. Dramamine were the only thing that worked - but only cos they completely conked me out. Doubt they would be available for an under 12yo though - so will keep a close eye on this thread. Does anyone know if there are any effective acupressure bands?

While this is active, anyone know anything that you can give an 18 month old? He's too young for everything I can go find

GreatGoldenMedally · 01/08/2012 08:30

Thanks all - I will look into Joyrides, Traveleeze, Travel calm and Dramamine!

lilbreeze, I agree 7/ 8 is late to become travel sick and we are all surprised but it all started one morning on holiday when we were about to drive all day and he had to get up early, eat his breakfast quickly and then decided to read in the car. As he didn't get travel sick, we thought that would be fine but he then became sick for the whole day and has regularly been sick in cars and buses ever since even though he is no longer allowed to read! We have never had dvds or games in the car but he had always been allowed to read, do sticker books, etc until then.

killergerbil* Traveleeze is ok from 2. Is your ds big for his age? If so it may be worth asking the gp if he could start taking them now? (just guessing that bodyweight is relevant)

Got a recommendation on here
Phenergan
You give it night before journey. It's liquid or tablets I think.

And best of all, you can buy it over counter without prescription although of course it would be free via GP. £4 or so though so well worth the no hassle for me.

DD is sporadically travel sick, depends on the roads really. I gave it to her before driving to France. Not one mention of tummy or sick.
Forgot on way home. Same road. Felt sick for several hours.
She's 5
