DS - 11 months - has a strange tooth!

My DS's first tooth came through at 6ish months and looks quite odd. It came through with a chip out of it and now he has more teeth, it's a noticably different colour, yellowy and more opaque than the others.

I have heard that baby teeth can sometimes come through dead, but I believe this makes them black or grey.

Has anyone else had this? Can I take him to a dentist? Or would a doctor be better? What are they likely to do?

Go see a dentist, there isn't anything they can do, but set your mind at rest that you are doing everything you can :).

maybe the enamel never formed properly on it when it was developing in his gums. I'd see a dentist just to get it checked out

They can come through with enamel problems, and it sounds like that. It could be missing or discoloured enamel. You'e not in an area where they add floride to the water are you? Sometimes excess floride can cause discolouration.
Go and ask a dentist to have a look.

Hmm I don't know about flouride in the water, is there a website where I could find out?

we are in Scotland and they dont add extra fluoride here
p.s. ds's first adult molars have come through (at age 5) without the enamel properly formed and he was prescribed a high fluoride toothpaste to try and prevent them from getting decayed.

what water authority do you come under? You could check their website
