My 1yo ds keeps getting his little thunder thighs trapped through the bars on his cot. I don't think it hurts him but he hates being trapped and he screams the house down. It's getting harder and harder to free his legs as he grows and because he has wee fat legs. Can anyone recommend anything that I can buy that stops this happening? I've tried bumpers but he just puts his leg over the top of them. Thanks.

Sorry if this isn't in the right place, I'm quite new.

I think you need to include the problem in your title. I can recommend many things, the answer to your problem is one that evades me.
I have a bony maloney and she never got anything trapped. She is a lot older than yours.
Can you explain to him why it's a bad idea? or reward him if he doesn't do it.
As I said, mine is 11 now and I can't remember how easy to reason with she was at the age yours is.

Airwrap. Have a look on amazon for it.

SpagBoltTheFastestManOnEarth · 30/07/2012 08:21

X post!

He could still get his legs over it but it would work for through the night. He does it in his sleep quite a lot. I don't think he does it on purpose when he's awake. Thank you.

I had same problem :( fortuately my dd is just old enough for a bed although one is a bit young. Is using a travel cot an option?

Keepcalmanddrinkgin · 30/07/2012 08:57

I was thinking about using his travel cot but it has quite a hard mattress. The mattress in his cot would be too slim so wouldn't fit. I'm going to use it if nothing else works though.

Not recommended I'm sure but I always padded out travel cots with a quilt or something as they were really hard Blush

Keepcalmanddrinkgin · 30/07/2012 09:13

I usually put something under the sheet as well. Some of the ones I looked at might as well have had a mattress made of stone! I can't wait until he's in a big bed but I think it will be a while, he's a gymnast in his sleep. If you blink he's in a different position at the opposite end of his cot.

Just wondering if your little one is in a sleeping bag?

If not, this may make it more difficult to but a leg / legs through.

Alternately there is a fitted "sheet" that is used in switzerland for babies which would probably restrict his ability to do this if he's not to big for it.
(Undoubtedly most people on MN will probably disapprove of it - but I am only suggesting it.)

I don't remember the name of it at the moment, but will do some searching and come back with the name of it.

talkingnonsense · 30/07/2012 09:25

A grobag ( baby sleeping bag that fits over the shoulders) might be a good solution.

Keepcalmanddrinkgin · 30/07/2012 10:31

I used to use baby sleeping bags but stopped when the weather got a bit hotter and I'm just using a blanket now. He sometimes manages to get out of the sleeping bags (they had poppers) but could find one with proper buttons. Thanks.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about sleeping bags - you can get really thin ones for summer and then there is no way they can get their legs through the bars.

If he can undo the poppers try putting it on inside out or back to front :)

steppemum · 30/07/2012 21:20

either put him ina sleeping bag (great for good sleeping too) or else switch to a travel cot, they can't put their feet through the mesh!

We lived in a very hot country and my dcs all slept in sleeping bags, so i made one out of a sheet for the summer, worked wonders

SpagBoltTheFastestManOnEarth · 31/07/2012 07:42

Tesco and asda both do good lightweight sleeping bags, you can get some with zips that are more difficult to escape from.

If you are looking for a travel cot mattress, have a look on amazon. We bought one as we started using when ds2 was really teeny and we thought the bottom was v hard. Got a kidtex mattress which has been brilliant and much cheaper than those from shops. Different suppliers all do different sizes so measure your existing mattress first
