need advice on my 3.5 y/o DD dental problem

My DD was seen by her dentist, said she has to undergo 12 teeth extractions under GA. I think its too drastic as my DD is not in any pain, no abscesses either. She has holes on 2 molars, carries on other 8. I asked if we could do fillings instead but dentist wont even consider it, said because of her age its not poss. Im thinking of refusing treatment as i really think extraction is unneccessary. Am i right on this? Need opinions and advice please.

Agree thats a lot of decay, is she havin juices in a bottle or a sippy cup? U can go to a different dentist and request fillings in those with holes rather than extractions, but if they also say it needs to be extractions then id go with it, theyre the experts and thats why u go after all. If u do nothin, the others will also get holes and can damage her adult teeth before theyre even through and i kno u dnt want that, else u wudnt go to the dentist anyhow! You obv care about this so listen to the experts, act on their advice and then ask how u can prevent this in future, good luck!

Crikey, poor little thing Sad

I think it would be wise to seek a second opinion just to put your mind at ease that it is the right decision. If the second opinion concures with the first then that's your answer sadly.

Have you worked out what could have caused it to be this bad?

barleysugar · 29/07/2012 18:22

Oh gosh that sounds awful, poor thing. I'd be tempted to get a second opinion, I really would.

GhouliaYelps · 29/07/2012 18:27

Oh that's awful. You could always seek a second opinion that's your choice but can you think why her teeth are so badly decayed? What does the dentist say?

Thanks for all your insights. My DD has been drinking on a bottle for too long dentist reckon its the cause plus i also had a hard time brushing her teeth when she was younger (had to fight tooth and nail to get her to open her mouth ) so i guess i wasnt really cleaning her teeth right (realy feel guilty abt this now ). Im looking for pediatric dentists now to ask for another opinion.

Well at least you know what caused it and it's all things you can change. I hope it all goes well for you both, whatever the outcome.

this can be down to virus or other illness you had when pregnant - can you identify any viral illness?
my dd had molars capped at age two -dentist always said th very dodgy molars were due to illness i had when pregnant at six months (i was able to recall the exact time i had vomiting bug)

other dd had certain molars very weak/holey which were removed but again dentist said this was also due to what happneed in utero - not afterwards. so dont blame yourself unecessarily..

get a second opinion from specialist paed dentist.
