Sun lotion P20 on toddler

Does anyone use P20 on their younger children? We swear by this sun lotion on ourselves and two older children (8 & 11) but it does smell quite strong so am unsure on whether I should be using something a little less strong on my 2 year old. I was surprised though when in Boots it is advertised as colourant and additive free, which surprises me with its strong smell!

Don't understand the problem. What is the connection with 2 yr olds and strong smells? If s/he doesn't like they will surely tell you?

It does feel quite harsh on my skin. I once put some on my face and it really stung. So I don't use it on my DD. We have found the Soltan Once for kids to be really good. It is supposed to last for 8 hours and comes as SPF50, so better than P20 all round.

When I said it smells strong, I meant it smells quite chemically and so not sure if it is suitable for young skin, saying that though it does wanders for both DH and DD2 who both suffer skin problems when lotion clogs up the skin as well as prickly heat!

I don''t know the answer, but have asked DH the same recently!

We love P20 as you only have to apply it once. I know it works in a different way to sun lotion in that it "bonds" (to keratin-I think?) to your skin.

I wasn't sure and kept using 50+ lotion on DD1 (20mths) recently.

Watching with interest....

My 8 yr old DS won't wear P20 as he says it stings. It has a very strong chemical smell. We use Ultrasun 50+ or Family 30 - once a day cream (quite thick & that reassures me for some reason). Its brilliant! He has worn it in August in greece & never got burnt.

Thanks for your responses, I think I've decided to give P20 a miss on the toddler this year on the basis that it is quite alcoholic and chemically. Also prefer to get something in a higher SPF. Off to Boots tomorrow to find something else ! Meanwhile the rest of the family will stick with it because I still think its brilliant.

I use Simple factor 50 on DS and factor 30 on me.

You can use it when pregnant which makes me think it'd be ok for toddlers but I emailed customers services to ask. I'm still waiting...... which makes me think their customer service is not as good as their sun cream Wink

We use Ultrasun which is also once a day, and ultra sensitive. My children have eczema and it doesn't irritate them at all.

darthsillius · 30/07/2012 18:49

Does p20 protect frim UVA and UVB ? I had a feeling it only did one. I used it but because if thst i switched to ultrasun which is only once a day too

Received this from P20:

Re: P20 Sun Protection

It is safe to use Riemann P20 on children and toddlers as young as 1 year old. Babies and young children are recommended to be kept out of the sun and/or protected by clothing/shade.

It may be difficult to spread a sun protection product evenly on a busy toddler and we therefore recommend an additional application 10 minutes after the first. Pay particular attention to the most vulnerable areas such as the ears, nose, shoulders, shins and feet. The most important thing to remember is to apply adequately. The recommended amount of sun protection lotion for a child is 20-30 ml per day if the whole body is exposed.

You can find more information about Riemann P20 sun protection on www.riemann.com

Hope that helps. Smile
