How to reduce a small scar?

younghilary · 23/07/2012 13:09

Dd recently had a small cut (just above her eyebrow) not requiring a stitch. It would have been fine, but she managed to pull the scab away whilst it was healing and is now left with a small red line, approx 2cm.

I know it might feel like a trivial concern, but I'm a little upset and wondering what I could do. I've looked at Bio oil and other creams and lotions, but wondering if there was something more I could do, or any other recommendations.

Bio Oil was on offer in Lloyds pharmacy not long ago, and is sometimes to be found cheap in places like B&M or Home Bargains. I've got some but am rubbish at keeping up with a routine of use so I can't say how good it is, only that it smells nice!

Bio oil is fantastic. A few years ago I tripped over and cut my head open. Massive gash just above my eyebrow. Needed about 10 stitches. As soon as I could I slapped some Bio Oil on it every day and it hardly scarred at all. You'd never know it had happened now.

Any scar takes several months (up to 2 years) to 'mature'. Until then, other than considering good sunprotection/avoidance as new skin is more sunsensitive than other skin, there is not an awful lot you can actively do.

BioOil is a good as any other moisturiser, but sadly not better (great reputation though...).

How old is your DD? The younger, the nicer a cosmetic result you are going to get in the longrun. Also certain skin types heal better than others, or take less time.

FWIW, DS4 2.4 is a climber and has had several cuts to his forehead which are entirely invisible (unless you used a magnifying glass and knew what you where looking for Wink).

She's five years old.

Thank you. I'll start with the Bio Oil.

I think that mother nature and time will almost certainly do the job for free, especially if the scar is not raised. I got a nasty cut under my eye which swelled badly, was full of dirt and had to be cleaned and glued. There was literally nothing to see a year later when I got married.

DD had to have her forehead glued together today & the doctor said to do Bio-Oil religiously twice a day in the direction of the scar starting in two weeks time & it should help. I hope so. It looks vicious at the moment... which I know is normal but still quite alarming.
