Waiting for NHS Direct to call me back within the hour.
Gave 6 year old DS 10ml instead of 5ml Calpol Sixplus - she said try not to worry but I am really worried obviously - any advice please... and there are no excuses for my stupidity.

I think that as a one off "over dose" you don't need to worry

It's nt like you have consistently done it

Does your child have a particular sensitivity to the ingredients in it?

I really wouldn't worry a friends little girl drank half a bottle of Calpol and they said it wouldn't do any harm and just to keep an eye. I think they worry if they have had more than they should over the 24 hour period - so if you were doubledosing more than once.

I gave a double dose to my DD1 when she was 14 weeks.

My DD didn't show any o/d symptoms, vomitting, lethargy etc and after a trip to the GP I was told that it was fairly common and I didn't need to worry.

Hope you get a call back soon.

I wouldn't worry when dd1 is in hospital they give her double the recommended dose, I have seen this happen a few times, obviously under medical supervision but as ruby slippers said it is a one off unless you mean every 4 hours you have been doubling up

Thanks - NHS Direct were fab, rang back within 10 mins. As he has not had any in past 24 hours and is 20kgs should be fine - as you all advised they treat it as double dose with a six hour per dose period. He could have it again in 12 hours or switch to Ibruprofen and stick to (correct dosage!) if need be. Thinking rationally now I remember when my eldest was in hospital years ago they double dosed him but logic went out of the window in a silent inner panic. Thanks again.
