Allergy or hayfever?!

DS has had increasingly itchy skin and sore eyes over the last few weeks. It started with his skin itching him but no rash and then the itchiness disappearing for a week or so before it happened again. Then his eyes started looking a bit pink and bloodshot and then started getting sore and itchy. We've had antibiotic drops but they didn't really help so we've now been given some anti-allergy drops and some piriton type stuff. Dr isn't sure if it's hayfever or an allergy. He has none of the wheeziness/runny nose that I would imagine he'd have if it were hayfever. His skin is now itchy everyday and he has a rash around his chest/neck.

We never really use the same soap/detergent/laundry liquid, just whatever is on offer so I'm not sure how to go about determining if it's an allergy??! Should I just try and use some sensitive skin stuff?

Hayfever is an allergy, to pollens.

Piriton should help, if that's what it is.

DS1 has been on 20ml Piriton daily for ages to help with it. He doesn't get a runny nose most of the time, but his eyes have been actually swollen shut at times.

Ooh ouch, your poor DS. I hope he's not suffering too badly at the moment.

My DS's symptoms aren't as severe, the main thing seems to be the itchy skin. Which doesn't seem like a hayfever thing does it?

My ds has always had dry red skin around his eyes which was put down to eczema. Recently he had allergy tests and the consultant said he had allergic eye disease. He's allergic to pollen, dust mites and cats, when he rubs his itchy eyes it's makes the skin sore rather than having sore skin that then gets itchy IYSWIM

He's been prescribed eye drops which have an antihistamine in which seem to be helping. Also he has cetririzine - an antihistamine, rather than piriton.

There's some info on the allergy uk website here

I hope you find something that helps soon :)

Thanks MegMog, I'll take a look at that website.
