Recurring tummy bugs

7-10days when he gets one. He has just got over one (finished last fri) and he has just projectile vomited making me thing he has another one.

I went to gp as was concerned about their frequency and duration. Was told this is all within the realms of 'normal' and probably due to nursery.

I am at my wits end - taking do much time off work and feel so sorry for baby.

Has anyone any ideas if there can be other underlying reasons why he keeps getting these bugs. Other children at nursery are not off much and other children seem to recover much more quickly.

In case it's relevant he has reflux (takes domperidone & ranitidine) & has suspected cmpi.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

When he has tummy bugs does he have runny nappies and a fever as well as the sickness?

Don't you think the projectile vomiting could be due to the reflux? Has he eaten anything which may have reacted to?

What do you give him to eat / drink when he has a tummy bug?

Are other kids at nursery in similar positions? Do they seem to have good hygeine protocol?

Fwiw some kids just suffer more with illNess than others. My ds is 5 and always so far gets more ill then dd who is only 1 I think its just child dependent.

However, so many long lasting tummy bugs in a short time and I think I'd be asking a paed referral. Is he losing weight?

Thanks for your reply willow.

Runny nappies come towards the end of the bug. And there is usually no fever.

It's not reflux sick - to be honest he's mostly grown out if it now.

When he has a bug we feed little and often and simple foods.

Nursery says that other children are not off as often or for as long.

We have an appt with hospital in a couple of weeks re reflux and cmpi so will raise it then.

I think I'm worried they'll brush it off as a nursery thing - which I hope it is but not feeling to convinced.

It could be an allergy. My ds was allergic to egg and I thought he was just getting loads of tummy bugs. He didn't have any hives or other symptoms from eating cooked egg but would be ill for a few days at a time, lots of vomiting and general lethargy, no temperature.

It wasn't until I noticed some very mild hives on his face after eating cake mix that I realised what it was. We avoided egg in his diet and the "tummy bugs" stopped. Might be worth considering.

A simple test we were advised of is to smear a small amount of raw egg white on his inner elbow, if it's an allergy he should get a skin reaction.
