Reflux & CMPI

DS is 16 months, and has had reflux and CMPI since a baby. I'm still breastfeeding, and recently started eating cheese as a test. Two weeks of it, and no reaction from DS apart from a small bout of hiccups at first. So I offered him some cheese for him to eat directly, and all seems fine.

Yesterday afternoon he drank about half a cup of cow's milk. He seemed fine all afternoon, slept well. This morning, though, he threw up a little.

Now, my question is - could this be the reflux/CMPI? Or was it too long after he drank the milk for it to be related? He has been very grumpy, but has been like that for a week now (teething and reaction to MMR). I've noticed no back-arching, nor any of the wrist-clenching and groaning he usually does with reflux, but we haven't tested him since he was about 12 months, so maybe his reaction to the reflux would have changed?

Can reactions be delayed by about 16 hours or so?

Thanks for any suggestions.

My daughter had reflux and a dairy intolerance (sorry don't know what cmpi stands for) and it took us years to figure out that she had dairy intolerance because she wouldn't eat it and then instantly throw up. We even kept a food diary and couldn't see the link so i would say yes, there can be a delay.

Obviously though Im not an expert.

We did though go dairy free for a few months when she was 3 years old (that's how long it took to realise she was intolerant) and reintroduced her to dairy and she was completely cured!

Perhaps revert back and try again in a few months?

CMPI = cow's milk protein intolerance.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I'm just hoping and hoping he's over it! It seems odd to me that he can have cheese for a couple of weeks and be fine.

I know! My daughter would eat diary everyday and initially would be sick constantly, by the time she was 1 she was only sick about once a week, but she was still eating it every day.

It never made much sense to me which is why i never thought it could be dairy. But after the break from it she stopped vomiting for good. They said that the break must have given her stomach a chance to heal.

Is there a test for milk protein intolerance? My daughter had blood tests for allergies but they all came back negative.

No test that I'm aware of. He's had the allergy tests, which all came back negative.

We did an exclusion diet, and also, the medication worked - these are the two factors that led to the diagnosis.

Oh i see. Similar as with my daughter then. Then said that sometimes the tests will come back negative but it will be clear from exclusion diet that there is actually a problem with that food and to trust that rather than the test results.
