I have 3 kids there, and don't know what to do, I can't keep them home as my partner & I have to work. Is it really contagious?

Have they been vaccinated?

FriskyMare · 17/07/2012 19:32

Like EvilTwins said, haven't they been vaccinated? AFAIK measles can be very serious and cause lots of complications.
What part of the country are you in?

TheEternalOptimist · 17/07/2012 19:34

If they have been vaccinated, they will be fine.

Otherwise, I would get them vaccinated as soon as possible. If there is an outbreak then even younger children can be vaccinated.

HeadsShouldersKneesandToes · 17/07/2012 19:42

If they have had their MMR they will be OK - one of the 'M's is for Measles. It really is very contagious yes. If they haven't had the MMR yet you can probably arrange an appointment via your GP for them to get the jab right away out of the normal schedule to get the protection up and running.

sleepybump · 17/07/2012 19:47

Measles is, from what i understand, making a huge come-back because of people not getting the mmr for their kids. There is a damn good reason to have the vaccination, so if you haven't already, get them done!

mimiof3 · 17/07/2012 20:21

They haven't yet had there mmr as they always seem to catch something or other at nursery. 2 of them are twins and are 19months old, my older son who is 4 is uptodate on his jabs so should be ok. we have booked them to have their jabs tomorrow, although it probably won't protect them now if they've already been exposed to it.

It might mean that if they get it, it will be less severe. Good luck.

Astr0naut · 17/07/2012 20:39

Don't suppose you're in the North West are you? I keep hearing stories about it going sound and It's incredibly worrying, as dd is only going to be 10 months when she goes to nursery in SEptember, adn ds will be 3, so won't have had his booster. Makes me so fucking cross with people who don't vaccinate; I shouldn't have to be on edge about measles until dd hits 13 months.

mimiof3 · 17/07/2012 20:55

We have no excuse Astr0, just lack of organisation, and never the "right time" to face taking time off work with two babies with side effects (ds1 was quite poorly after MMR). Really kicking ourselves now.

We're not in the NW, btw.

I wasn't getting at you, Mimi; it's all those who've chosen not to.

mimiof3 · 17/07/2012 21:43

Well, it's people like me too Astr0. But thanks.
