and I just wondered if anyone knew of a common cause for them. They're not massive, they're tiny, but he's in discomfort. Bananas (which he loves) particularly hurt his mouth when he eats them.

He seems to have an ulcer about 50% of the time right now and begs for bonjela, which I know is now not recommended for children.

Any advice?

I looked online but there seem to be so many types of ulcer and causes that I couldn't work out what might be the cause, and wondered if they are common in children. Not sure if I should worry/take him to doc/dentist or not.

My children get them if they are not getting enough sleep, or are eating too much sugarhave been to their grandmothers for the night

If he has a health diet, doesn't have sugar, and doesn't have late nights, take him to the GP for a check up.

Could it be thrush?

how funny colgate was the one that teen thought the worst.

I am very prone to mouth ulcers, apparently some people just are! I think iglu is better than bonjela (you can get childrens bonjela for teething, not sure if the other type still contains asprin?). Eating 'sharp' food triggers me as it scratches the mucosa. Crisps are guaranteed to do it.

This is really useful, thanks. He has been eating far too much sugar recently. Somehow the summer is full of the stuff - endless end of term parties for all the clubs they go to, and birthdays, ice-creams etc. We need to cut back. He always has late nights (Finds it hard to settle to sleep) and he insists on grown up toothpaste, even though I buy him Pronamel.

I'll try low sugar for a week, kid's toothpaste, and lots of water, to see if that helps.
