Most likely the start of chicken pox. Does dc have a runny nose, temperature or cold-like symptoms.

Whoops - pressed post too early!

So, just changed DS (11mo)'s nappy and noticed a small fluid-filled blister just next to his penis (not quite on testicle, but on skin nearby). Can't see any others and he seems well (no runny nose for once, even!).

Any ideas? Can't get to dr until tomorrow morning. Blister is quite pronounced, doesn't seem to bother him when I poke it, about the size of a grain of rice (but round).

Really hoping its not the start of the pox as he's due to have general anaesthetic on wed :-(

Any advice or experience of this? TIA

Wow! That was quick! Thank you for replying. No temp or other symptoms. In fact, he slept well for the first time in ages last night! His sister has had the vaccine but he hasn't yet and never been exposed to it as far as I know.

Watch him for the next 24 hours - Pox's start on torso, before spreading to arms and legs.

Thanks for info! I'll keep checking for more spots. Do they get spots before they get ill then? Or can they just get 1 spot and never get ill? I wonder what else it could be I'd not pox. Any thoughts y'all? x

mine all did - all started with one big spot, then over the next 24 hours, they got more and more and got a nice temp to go with it.

Oh god, so he could still get ill? I thought that once the spots appeared the fever bit had passed!

Found a few more spots, but much smaller. More like tiny pimples. Still not at all ill though..

my DD had pox when little - she had 11 spots and was a bit grizzly, but that could just as easily been teething.

My sons were covered.

Play it by ear, but if he is due in surgery, I would let the hospital know that you suspect he has chicken pox - they will not be able to operate if he has the pox. YOu could also take him to the GP just to be sure, but it does sound likely. :(
