Nosebleeds

I realise that it is probably just a childhood nosebleed but just wanted to gauge a few opinions.

My DS2 is four and has had two nose bleeds in the last 6-9 months. Both have been at night and he hasn't realised until the morning when he has a bloody cushion . Both times there has been a fair amount of blood and I guess what I am concerned about is that because they have happened at night and he isnt woken by them that I don't see them occur to ascertain the normal ness???

Does anyone have any experience they could share?

No experience of this.
It does sound a bit unusual,so I would br inclined to take him to the GP just in case something is amiss.

I used to have nosebleeds all the time when I was a child. Usually about 4-5 a week, including some at night. My mum took me off to the GP and I was referred to an ENT specialist who said I had thinner than usual membranes (I think) in my nose. It's been cauterised twice as a child and they stopped. Only had more bother with it when I was pregnant.

I suffered with nose bleeds a lot as a child - often several a week. And they were frequently at night and did not always wake me. Still do occasionally now, especially when I have a cold or am pregnant. I was also told that it was due to thinner membranes meaning that the blood vessels are closer to the surface and more easily ruptured.

Oh, and one of my nieces suffers from the same thing so perhaps it is hereditary. Do you know if the same thing happens / has happened to anyone else in either side of your DS's family?

I'd mention it to the GP to be on the safe side but I'm sure you'll be told there's nothing to worry about - apart from the extra washing, that is!
