ds is 22months.
Had meningitis scare yesterday. Non blancing rash but no temp. Everything is fine. Had to make sure as he's had it in the past.
He's got low immune system due to meningitis.
I know I shouldn't of I asked dr google about low WBC and a lot on leukaemia and that low WBC is a symptom so are low immune system and mysterious aches and pains. Ds gets a lot of aches and pains in his arms, hands, legs and feet.
Quite concerned. I will make telephone appointment next week with gp. Hosp want to redo bloods too.
He does have other health probs too:
Gastrosotomy
Food aversion
Reflux
And a few still being diagnosed.

Isitme stay off google. If he has recently had a lot of viral infections, colds etc. you would often have a low white cell count. If you are deficient in folate or certain minerals due to a poor diet (like your son?) you may well have a low white cell count. There are lots of more likely causes than leukaemia.

In a way low white blood cell count IS low immunity, they are the disease so don't worry about that as a separate issue iyswim, he may well have low immunity due to a poor diet.

I'm not an expert but I feel sure if hospital had identified something concerning from the blood test you would have been referred straight away.

His diet was poor due to food aversion.
Now he is peg fed neocate advance.

To me his low immune system is an effect of the meningitis he had as a baby.
He was going to be referred but he has already got a general paed which we are seeing end of next month as she is on holiday middle of this month til middle of next.

He suffers from a lot of infections rather than viruses but picks up a lot of viruses up too.
Since April he's had round about 10 lots of antibiotics for uti's, gastrostomy infections, ear infections and tonsillitis ( proper puss not virus) .

Hospital said if I haven't heard from them then to give them a ring as it needs to be checked at that hosp and then when he sees pead

Just to put another thought to you, perhaps his meningitis was as a result of him not having a fully functioning immune system? Combinearvester is right and his counts may be a result of him having had repeated infections, but it is possible he is getting these because his immune system is not quite on track too. I would be pushing for the paeds to look a lot harder at his immune cells and the various types that there are to see if any one area is a problem, and also looking at his antibody levels. Having said all this though I agree Dr Google can often be a very scarey kind of Dr and whilst it is always a worry when they are ill it is better to have rational discussions with the medics than getting too hung up on some things you have read online.

Beautifulgirls that's what I think. Meningitis= messed up immune system.
The first ever infection he had was at round about a week old and that was belly button got infected (before meningitis)
I am defo going to get them to check his immune system.

Thank you both for your help
