DD2 is 3.6. A few months ago I noticed a little blister on the side of her mouth. I had recently had a cold sore and had a new tube of cream in my bag so I rubbed a little on. I did it without really thinking but I think it was too strong for her as it caused a red, irritated patch where I put the cream.
That looked worse than the blister for a few days and then seemed to fade. It then flared up looking red a few times since.
I asked in the chemists and was told just to moisturise it.
Now it has flared up again and she has more blisters in the corner of her mouth.
I've googled and it seems most children have a horrible 'primary herpes infection' and then go on to have cold sores.
DD never had anything like this and has always been an very healthy child - just one course of antibiotics in 3.6 years for a chest infection, rarely ever gets a cold etc
Am I right in thinking it is probably a cold sore? It looks like one but doesn't seem to bother her at all.
Is there any treatment for cold sores in a young child?
Should I take her to the doctor with this? By the time I get an appointment the actual sore will be cleared up.
