I have posted many times on about my 6yr old dd who has been ill on & off all year. Started with 2 lots of tonsillitis but then just general virus type symptoms - sore throat, swollen glands, nausea, headache, fatigue, aversion of bright lights - the list could go on & on. Anyway I digress, she was tested for anaemia, glandular fever & markers for leukaemia - all negative. After much pushing we have got a paed. referral which is in two weeks time. Dd has had yet another set back recently & feels like it is back to square one - again. So I googled CFS/ME & it fits so many of her symptoms. I want to give myself a slap for googling, I mean we are seeing someone in 2 weeks after over 6 months of this.

Argh bloody Dr Google.
Sorry have no real advice but didn't want to leave your post unanswered. I understand that horrible gnawing feeling as well.

creativepebble · 11/07/2012 22:47

Not got any wise words on this as I'm out of my depth, just didn't want to have you unanswered...
Hang in there. I would have done the same.
Just remember the internet is a double edged sword with health and know that your dd has all your love and care in the world.
Good luck.

Thank you, well I have a sense of perspective this morning that I didn't last night. The internet is so wonderful in so many ways & at least if that is the diagnosis I have lots of info available.

Hi Roundabout1
I just wanted to say that I did something similar when pregnant with by DD. We were given dire results from our growth scans at 20 weeks and told not to Google until we saw a specialist in 2 weeks time, but I couldn't help it. Much like yourself. Wrong, wrong and very wrong thing to do so I understand what you're feeling.

All I can say is that Google got it wrong in my case. The specialists were amazing and gave us completely different information and our DD is fine now.

What I did to try and calm my nervousness after the Google expreience was to write a list of questions and went armed with a pen and paper and write what they said down. If stressed I can't remember a word people say 2 mins after they've said it so this worked for me.

I hope that your meeting in 2 weeks with the specialist goes well.

Thanks NikkiTwinkle

Can I just say, it could just be recurrent tonsilitis. I had it for years and got headaches, nausea, fever and generally felt like it'd been hit by s truck on top of the sore throat and swollen glands

roundabout1 · 13/07/2012 21:56

Thanks summer she's not had tonsillitis for months but does have huge tonsills. I take her pretty much every week just to be checked over - only when she's poorly though of course! So far this year she's had 36 appointments at the doctors.I swear the GP surgery think I've got MUnschausens By Proxy or whatever it is when you make up problems with the child just for the attention! It's a bit ridiculous really.

Ask for an ENT referral to see if they'd recommend removing the tonsils. My friends dd is waiting to have hers out atm and she has very similar symptoms to your dd.

I did eventually grow out of it but removing my tonsils would have spared me over 10 years of constant illness

MrsLego · 16/07/2012 10:05

Hi, I've posted of your threads before as my dd has been going though similar this year. Back in may I took her to visit the nurse (again) and she decided to swab her throat (she has had mild sore throats and big swollen glands since december), the swab came back positive and 2 weeks of penicillin were given, but a week later the throat was bad again, another 10 days on anti-b's.(she had already had 7 days of penicillin in early may). She has now been referred to ENT, about having her tonsils removed. So it looks like dd's tonsils may have been the problem all along, but because she has not developed full blown tonsillitis, we've overlooked it I feel.

I hope your dd is feeling better at the moment, I think I would be asking for a throat swab to be done.

cocolepew · 16/07/2012 10:14

I agree about looking into getting her tonsils removed. I got recurrent tonsillitis as an adult and my health really suffered over a couple of years. It was heaven to have them taken out.

Well we were at the hospital on friday, apparently she has a post viral illness & we probably will never know what has caused it. The window was missed for blood testing for some things that could have caused the symptoms. She is having a full blood work up & thyroid & kidney function tests. Her throat has been swabbed & her tonsills checked & although big they are ok. They dont think she has Chronic Fatigue but have said it could take up to 2 years for her to recover. At the time I was obviously pleased it was nothing worse but now a long recovery process seems very daunting especially with an active toddler around. We have been advised to regulate her activity & to make sure she has some exercise every day & not to overdo it when she feels well. She's wiped out after a full week at school last week & has been very lethargic with a very sore throat & general aches & pains since friday :(

Ds2 has been in and out of hospital with the same thing this last 6 weeks :( he has been so unwell, he was tested for meningitis, leukemia, blood disorders, urine infections and ceoliac. All came back negative and then a throat swab came back positive for Strep A he's had 10 days of penicillin and we see an ent next week.
He really was poorly and lost nearly 2kg and he only weighs 11kg now.
He was even rushed to resus from the gp's as he was so unwell.
Hope your dd starts to recover soon x x

cocolepew · 23/07/2012 17:39

Poor her Sad, post viral doesn't cause a sore throat though, does it? Are you still waiting for the swab results? I would say 2 years is the worst case senario.

I would start her on fish oils, if possible and try to cut down on her sugar consumption.

Hope she starts to improve soon.
