Baby sick daily from birth but not reflux - any ideas?

DS is 9.5 months. He is frequently sick. It's better since he's been eating solids but he's still sick every day, especially in the evening.

Dr has prescribed many reflux meds but nothing has worked. We've also changed his diet to cut out dairy etc. but to no effect. Shouldn't be a soya allergy as all his food is home-made (just meat/fish/veg/fruit).

We've just been for a scan. No evidence of reflux, the bloke just mentionned that DS's stomach took longer than normal to empty, but couldn't see a physical problem.

I'm waiting for DS's Dr to ring back but I'm concerned. What can be making him sick? Any ideas?

Is your DS still taking any reflux meds? My DTDs were on Losec which caused delayed gastric emptying and subsequent constant upchucking (without the refluxy pain). Something about the low levels of acid causing the oesophageal sphincter to remain open... Apologies if this is irrelevant, but perhaps worth a thought if meds are still in the picture.

Good luck OP. Hope the Dr can shed some light.

Good idea but no, we stopped all meds about 4 months ago.

But it was interesting that his sickness isn't because of a valve not working but because the stomach filling very quickly and not emptying...which would also explain why he's always eaten little and often. And why he's now sicker in the evening after a day of food

Allergies other than dairy or soya? My DS was the same, we cut out dairy, it made a difference, but the real difference came when we realised he had allergies to egg, legumes etc.

Keep a food diary to see if a pattern emerges.

I had two extremely sicky babies. Very irritating it was too, what with the ten changes of clothes a day, and the constant pools of vomit that I had to clean up. And more seriously, their 'failure to thrive' (i.e., they fell off the bottom of the weight charts).

There seemed to be no cause. They had tests, but nothing was found. No allergies, no reflux, no blockages.... In the end, as one consultant said to me, gravity sorted them out. Once they were walking (so standing upright most of the time), they just stopped being sick.

DD stopped being sick at around the year mark, DS was a little later.

My son was constantly sick as a baby, with failure to thrive & blood/ mucous stools. He's a lot better now. He has allergy to milk, eggs, wheat, soya & rye.
Has your Lo had a endoscopy/ biopsy done?
Hope he feels better soon.

Thanks everyone

The two tests so far were just scans (one he had to drink something to see how his insides react - he didn't enjoy that, it was an awful experience pinning him to the table whilst he cried Sad )

The Dr has rung back and isn't convinced with the non-results so wants us to go off and see some gastro specialist (we're not in the UK so it's quite usual to trawl around several specialists).

DS seems to be thriving though which is strange considering how much he's sick (but we're thankful for that at least!). He's average weight and height for France (where we live) but on the 0.4th centile in the UK for weight (down from 25th at birth although in between he managed to get up to the 50th!). It's funny there's such a difference between the two countries.

choc that sounds awful Sad glad your DS is ok now

Should add though that DS is the smallest baby we know of so the French charts might be out of date somewhat!

He's very lively and active though, and the sick doesn't seem to bother him, except if he's trying to go to sleep/lying down (ended up keeping him up for an extra 2 hours last night cos he kept being sick)
