hydonephrosis of kidney - if one child has it do your other kids have it?

My dd has hydronephrosis of one of her kidneys. It was detected at the 20 week scan (she is now 18mo) and she had a pyloplasty at 3 months and a couple of cystoscopies since.

I am now 17 weeks pg and getting nervous about forthcoming 20 week scan, as that is when dd's was picked up.

If you have one child with hydronephrosis I am interested to know did your other children have it too? On the plus side at least we know now it is curable and the ops, while horrible to go through, are not as major as some problems some kids have.

If one child has it, there is a slightly increased chance that other siblings may have it (compared to the overall population)

However, most siblings of an affected child have no kidney problems at all.

So its most likely that this baby will be fine

Sorry, but i don't have any specific information but i suppose it depends on if it is a inherited condition. If it is, then there will be a chance it will be passed on again. To put it in perspective though. If it is a dominant condition (which i would be surprised because either you or your partner would have it) then there would be a 50:50 chance (as you get one set of chromosomes from mum, one from dad) but if it is recessive, which means you need both chromosomes to carry the mutation then its one in four chance. So thats a 3 in four chance the child wont be affected. These odds are if both you and your partner are carrying the same mutation. Sorry if this is a bit vague as i don't know anything about that condition, just how genes are passed on :)

If you talk to your GP they should be able to give you more information about this. I would have thought if there was signficant risk then they would have let you know.

Having done a very quick google, it isn't always hereditary so hopefully the chances of any other of your children having this would be slim x
