DD having an Ultrasound

DD had a viral a few weeks ago, I took her to the doctors and he agreed viral. I mentioned she wee's a LOT and he asked for a urine sample. She done one and 20-30mins later the doctor called to say there was blood, lucozite and protein in her wee, this would indicate a uti but they will send it to the lab anyway. She had anti-b's for 3 days and perked up (fever/headaches/tummy ache). The results came back from the lab showing no infection?!

I took her back to the doctors a week or so later and explained she still wee's a lot (ie, it wasn't down to the uti) they done another urine sample and it had blood in still. She has been referred on for other checks, they aren't even sure why she has blood still, but I did mention my sister's kidneys leak blood and she always has blood in her urine samples.

Soooo.... DD has an ultrasound on her kidneys on the 16th, it says she needs to have a full bladder and not wee for an hour previous - she wees 5-6 times an hour, that's going to be 'interesting' Hmm

How old is she?
Is she of an age to understand that she needs to hold it?
Glad they are taking it serious and following up etc.

She's 6, I've mentioned it to her that she needs a scan of her kidneys and where her kidneys are etc. I haven't yet told her she needs to hold her wee for it, she is capable of holding, but that obviously doesn't help the fact she needs a wee. She is weeing normal amounts each time.

I have a just 7 year old dd, and i think i would try and handle it by being smart.
I.e our hospital is a 25 min drive. I would tell her to wee just before we leave (normal routine as still have 2 toddlers aswell)
Then have slow drive over, get parking ticket etc. Then head into hospital and grab a juice for her to drink and then head to shop to buy a magazine, head over to appointment area and allow her to become distracted by magazine. That way hopefully she will have the juice to be working for scan, but not overly full so not bursting, and can hopefully be distracted by reading. When she starts asking to go you can explain that she can't as needed next for scan and must have the fluids in her.
I couldn't tell my dd before hand she couldnt wee as it would make her want to soo much more, or she would refuse to drink.
Fingers crossed it goes well for you.

Ds had to have this scan a couple of weeks ago. He also goes to the loo often! He was desperate but at 8 old enough to understand that he had to try really, really hard not to wee. When he was called through he started to wet himself. She scanned his bladder quickly to measure the urine then let him go to the toilet.
She then scanned him again this time for a lot longer.
DS has very similar symptoms to your DD, we are still waiting to see the pead with his results.
I hope your DD gets on ok.

Ds has a kidney scan the day before along with instructions to drink a pint of water and not wee. He's older than your dd but has special needs & is incontinent so keeping.it in might be hard. Tbh its only since he started having scans at our local hospital that we have had these instructions. When he had them at a children's hospital (from age 3) they never bothered - i think it Just gives a better picture if the bladder is full.
