Hi My name is Kira and i have a 17 week old son called Tylor. They found a clickey right hip on his 6 week checkup and i only just had the ultrasound today where they found that his right hip is fine but his left hip is slightly problematic.

i dont really know much information but have been told he has to wear a brace for 6 weeks atleast. i'm at the point where i'm panicking a little i dont know what to expect.

i've got a few questions Will he be able to sit up and role over or stand in them as he's in the prosses of learning these things now i am worried it will servearly damage his developement.
What's the brace like?
How do i dress him?
Does he have to have it on perminantly? i read that the braces are perminent and cant be taken off. so can i not bath Tylor He will not settle without his bath he will be up all night.

i am a single mum and i am conserned i wont be able to cope but am so afrade to bring these worries up as i feel people will think i'm am unsutible mother.

i'm probably just stressing for no need also i'm still in shock a bit i think but it's taking everything i've got not to just curl up in a ball and cry my heart out.

i really would aprieciate any advice or experiences people would be happy to share.

My son has had a brace for clicky hips (he was older so had to have plaster cast first). When it was just the brace we could take it off for a bath but nothing else. It went over the top of his clothes.

My son had other problems so can't really answer the development issues but I know that others with the same thing said that it did delay walking a bit but they all caught up in the end.

It is scary at first but once you get used to it, it is amazing how well both of you will adapt.

I will say, think about how you will position your ds and transport him as both of these things can be tricky.

There is a brilliant charity which will fill you in a lot more, they have info sheets to help as well as practical advice and some great forums where the mums will help you out. This charity can be found at

Good luck!
