He's 3.9. Never been a big eater.
Spots started coming out on Tuesday last week, came out in force on Sunday and a few more came out today. He last ate a meal on Sunday - picked at some chicken and roast spuds, carrots and peas at lunch time.
Since then, he has only eaten ice lollies and a bowl of cereal in the mornings, and a bag of chocolate buttons. Today he is even reluctant to drink water and milk. He is turning down his favorites - ice cream, stawberries, apples, grapes, ham, olives, cake.

I am giving him as many lollies as he wants to keep him hydrated and a chewable vit tablet every day. Do I just need to keep doing this and hope his appetite picks up as he feels better?

Have you checked his mouth/throat? My DD had spots inside hers which didn't help with eating! I wouldn't worry too much just keep trying different things. Ice lollie are good to get fluid down and will also help numb the pain of any spots. Hope things improve soon Sad

Yes, he's got spots in mouth.

I had CP when I was 15 and can still remember the pain of the spots in my mouth! Will he take calpol to help with the pain? Avoid acidic food or rough/hard foods. I would definitely carry on with the lollies - perhaps try freezing fruit juice in ice cubes he can suck. Perhaps very cold yogurt or jelly might work too? I'm sure it won't last long.

Thanks Seeline. He looks awful and it's totally floored him (he is usually a very active, high octane nearly 4 year old boy, full of beans). he doesn't want any food at all (he has never been keen on sloppy food, even as a baby and he decided he was doing BLW because he refused slop on a spoon from the outset). the lollies I've got are fruit juice ones anyway. He'll also struggle through a packet of chocolate buttons too, which I suppose is carbs!

Just worry about the fluids. Yoghurts are also good and will be soothing inside the mouth.

BikeRunSki · 03/07/2012 19:16

I wish he'd eat yoghurts, but he's never liked them. He hates that sloppy texture., won't eat yoghurt, soup, stewed fruit, mash etc

Hope your DS is feeling abit better today.
If he doesn't like yogurts, you can get those 'tubes' of fromage frais and pop those in the freezer to eat as ice pops. I often do this for my DCs packed lunches as they act as an ice pack to keep their lunch cool Grin

Ah yes. We call them 'frubicles'. He's had some cereal and a gingerbread man this morning Smile.

go with the childs appitite, if not eating dont worry, its normal. Just keep liquids up. I would lay off dairy produce as its mucus causing and its hard for the body to digest, clear liquids, soups and broths.
