Hi, my LO has got bad reflux and doc has prescribed gaviscon. Did this work for anyone? My baby is so tired as he keeps waking up to get sick!

It can, give it for a week and if there is no improvement ask to try carobel as it is a paste and can help.

Is your baby bottle or breasted? Check out symptoms of cows milk protein allergy as well as reflux-symptoms are almost identical and most docs don't consider it.
If gaviscon is doing nothing after a week it is unlikely to work. there are other meds -namely ranitidine and omeprazole which are usually more effective.

OK, if bottle fed formula, I would definitely want to have cow's milk protein allergy ruled out before going down the reflux medication route. You will have to be quite direct at the GP's that you mean cow's milk protein intolerance, and not lactose intolerance -inability to digest lactose in very young babies is very rare. Protein intolerance is more common.

Does your baby have any symptoms like rashes, eczema, wheezing, or anything like that? If so, I would def suspect milk as the problem. Even without this, it could be the cow's milk. My son had a fairly severe problem with cow's milk but no 'typical' allergic symptoms. There are prescription formulas which can be used if it is a cow's milk allergy.

If you get omeprazole, do read the instructions carefully as it needs to be administered on an empty stomach (well, as far as is feasible with a young baby) and you need to wait for half an hour after giving it for it to be absorbed.

Best of luck, it's no fun when they're very sicky.
