My DS vomited yesterday but seemed ok for the rest of the day and ate all his meals. When we got up this morning he had vomited in the night. I gave him his milk this (big mistake!) all of that came up. Hes sleeping now. Im assuming i offer him food at mealtimes as normal to see if he wants anything. What foods are best I don't want to offer something that will aggravate his stomach. Thanks.

No, dont offer him anything except water in tiny sips (a teaspoon at a time). The last thing he needs is food or milk.

I wouldnt try him with any food at all until this evening and then only if he hasnt vomited again today.

A rice cake or a plain biscuit would be the first thing Id give him.

I would probably just stick to simple foods, bread/toast are always quite good. Nothing too acidic. Plain biscuit etc is also a good idea as these will have sugar in too (not advocating a biscuit fest but within reason). Important to keep him drinking though, to keep fluids up.

Oh ok, but a stupid question probably. I know hes poorly but he likes his food what if hes hungry. If hes upset and wanting food surely I need to offer him something?

I would offer bland foods - rice cake, plain toast, maybe banana.

You may wish to steer clear of dairy for a little while - sometimes bugs can disrupt the good bacteria in the gut and dairy can aggregate things.

Cross posts Mum1234, bread/ toast I can do, don't have biscuits in the house unfortunately. A friend has suggested dry toast, I can't imagine him being happy with that- is a little butter out of the question?

Give him a plain biscuit/ dry toast and if he keeps that down (half an hour should be enough) offer him more.

RackandRuin · 02/07/2012 11:00

Butter might be too greasy. If he's hungry, he eat anything!

Mintyy · 02/07/2012 11:03

He might be mistaking tummy ache for hunger pains.

If you have a stomach bug or food poisoning and keep throwing up, do you feel like eating? The natural thing to do is not to eat, food just gives the bugs an environment to live and grow in

YY give him food if he wants to eat, it will be very uncomfortable for him uf he retches on an empty stomach. I have tended to give mine what they would normally have, within reason (ie nothing too sweet/heavy but still a normal meal). Would still give milk if that is normal routine, maybe try to get him to sip it rather than gulp down.

Hoe he gets better soon, these bugs are draining for you too.

I guess your right! Dry toast it is then. If he keeps it down (i will wait half an hour as you suggest) do I just stick to that for the rest of the day or can I offer something else. Also what shall I do about his bedtime milk tonight? Sorry I sound clueless but this is the first time ever hes vomited!

I probably wouldn't today, made this mistake before and it aggrivated things. If you feel he really does need it then maybe give him a really watered down version, so not so much dairy. Only a very small amount though. I would suggest lots of TLC and cuddles on your knee are more likely to relax him though and then he'll forget about it a bit more and sleep. Also it will help relax you as if he is sensing you are in a pickle then he will too (easier said than done I know!). Good luck, most importantly go with your gut instinct. You know him best. :o)

Ok thanks for the advice. Hes still asleep so i will see how he is when he wakes but will stick to toast and try and cut out the milk tonight as well.
