high calorie food/drink ideas for 8yo

I'm after some ideas really, my 8 year old son is very thin (I am naturally quite slim too) he was on the 25th centile at birth but quickly dropped to the 9th centile where he remained as a baby and toddler.

He has also recently had a virus which suppressed his appetite and left him feeling wiped out. He will NOT eat peanut butter but does like eggs and will eat cheese if nagged, I'm looking for ideas for healthy high calorie snacks and meals to help him to gain some weight.

I have debated taking him to the doctor but I don't feel there is much point as he is generally happy and healthy - he's rarely ill, just very very skinny!

Forgot to add, he also often forgets to eat and has to be reminded and encouraged. He has never been much of a foodie, even as a baby he wouldn't drink much milk (unlike his hefty little brother who is four years younger and only 1 stone lighter than his big brother!!)

Often when I remind him he will eat, it just seems to be something he isn't really bothered about, any tips for encouraging an older child to eat?

smoothie of banana and full fat milk

Bangers and mash

Scrambled eggs on toast

Spaghetti bolognese

Get him to help you cook if you haven't already tried this.

YY to smoothie. Flapjack? Snack on dried fruit (but remember to drink water). Can he eat nuts? If all else fails then cake!?!

I have the same trouble with ds2. He's 11 and very thin. Forgets to eat his school packed lunch plays football instead Hmm

Will he eat pizza? I do ds2 margherita as it's his favourite. Nuts are high calorie. Will he eat eggy bread/fried bread? I cook in butter for ds2 when possible. Add extra butter to potatoes etc..

I've just started this type of diet with ds2 so am waiting for results. He has plenty of energy but it's when he gets ill (rarely thank goodness) that he looks so gaunt.

Good luck with your ds I hope you can get him to eat more?
