I don't think my 18month old daughter is growing properly.

Hi my daughter is very short and light for her age. She was two weeks early and weighed 5 pounds and three oz. She is 18 months old now but only 18.9 pounds and 72 cm tall. She is also not walking unaided. I took her to the health visitor last week and ended up seeing a student health visitor. My HV rang me back because MDD is being referred to a physio. I noticed today that according to her red book she has not only slightly slipped off her weight percentile but complete; slipped off her height percentile. She was just above the 2nd percentile but has slipped off the chart completely for her height. She eats like a horse and is very active. I don't think my HV realizes my D has slipped off her height percentile as i didn't so didn't mention it. Don't think the student would of as she seamed very unconfident and inexperienced. AM very concerned about my daughters growth and the fact she is not walking. Should just mention she is dairy intolerant. My D has only grown two cm in 5 months and put on 2 pounds approx. Can any one reasure me, Should I phone my HV back? Don't want to sound like a paronoid mum with out good reason.

It may be totally normal for her and nothing at all to worry about but it does sound like you should ask for her to be referred to a paediatrician for a check over anyway, if only for peace of mind. If something were amiss then at least you would be with the right people to look into it and advise from there. Don't feel worried about sounding paranoid, I think you have a valid reason to ask here and it is their job to listen to parents and make any necessary arrangements. If for any reason you get no joy from the HV then go and see your GP and do it via that route instead.

Do either you or her Dad have short relatives, even going back a few generations as she good just have inherited their "short" genes? Also dc grow in spurts so it may be nothing to worry about at all but you are not being silly or neurotic to discuss your concerns with the HV or GP.

Do ask to see a paediatrician. If she is dairy intolerent, she may also have problems with other food that is inhibiting her body's ability to absorb food.

Do you have other concerns about her health, immune system, bowels, skin etc which could indicate other food issues?
