Hi, I need to decide quite soon as the doctors here in france closes in 1/2 hour. Wondering if I should take DD back in. She is 13 months, and she has had a very high temp for almost 3 days, as in up to 39.7 high.
I took her to the french doc on Weds and he thought she had a throat infection and gave her antibios and said to carry on with the paracetamol. I neglected to mention she had had her jabs 7 days previously though.
Now I'm wondering whether its all a reaction to those - whether she didn't need the antibios after all.
Should I pop her back in now - I'm so concerned as she is boiling hot. If it is the jabs, this is within the normal range, right? Please advise what you would do????

It is a long time ago since mine were babies, so cannot remember if they had temps following jabs or not.

I would take her tbh.

If I were you I'd take her - for reassurance if nothing else.

It's not unusual to get a fever 1-2 weeks after the 12-13 month jabs (which include MMR).

A fever itself isn't a problem, it's usually what it signifies (eg an infection) that is the problem. If she has had a throat infection diagnosed in person by a dr and also had her imms a week ago then it may well be a case of managing her comfort - strip her off, plenty of fluids/ice poles etc and regular paracetamol if she's unhappy.

I don't think that this fever is caused by the vaccination. Usually, IF they get a fever following vaccinations the fever is low to moderate. A fever of 39.7 is high.

Thanks for your replies. She seemed to perk up ok after some Advil, so I didn't take her. I'll wait to see how she is in the am I think, she's asleep now after eating a little bit of supper, so think she's ok.

Is she responding to calpol/ibroprofin? Bringing her temperature down in particular.

If she is then personally I wouldn't worry unless there's other things worrying you. Make sure you alternate them for better effect.

My French paed told me that you're not supposed to give them Advil anymore as apparently it makes the body less able to foght off infections so only to give it if told so by a doc Confused

If you're still worried later, you can call SOS Medecins- if they have them were you are.
