Colic in 3 week old

Had a terrible afternoon /evening in Thursday with screaming and thrashing about. Had been prescribed gaviscon for sickiness/ possessing after meals and was advised by maternity unit to get infacol. The next day apart from an hour of grizzliness before bedtime she was much better. She mainly slept all day. Would this be normal for colic or not ? I don't know whether to carry on with both sets of meds or not ?

Any help appreciated

Yes, carry on using the medication until told not to.

Am now wondering if the gaviscon is giving her constipation as we had no poo yesterday and a solid one today. She is still in some discomfort too !

DS had colic, reflux, and tongue tie, so was a very screamy baby - i'd go back to the doc and ask about alternatives to the Gaviscon if I were you. DS didn't get on with it at all, ended up on Ranitidine for reflux, and took Infacol for ages with no ill effects.

Your dd is only 3wo - keep her on the meds she's been given but don't wait it out, just go back to the Docs ASAP! Hope she gets better soon, fingers crossed for you that it isn't reflux.

Thanks for the advice . I am just not sure she even needs the gaviscon as she only blurbs a bit up after each meal. Guess will see how the weekend goes. Wish babies could tell us what was up !

OP maybe have a read up about silent reflux - it's the discomfort of the acid shooting up the pipes that makes them writhe and arch, without producing much actual vomit (sometimes none). Does she dislike sleeping on her back, or prefer to settle on you upright before being put down? It's just a thought - my DS was dx with reflux when he was small but a friend of mine who'd seen all our troubles with it just had her DS dx with it at a year old!

Gaviscon often gives 'playdoh' poo. If it is reflux then omeprazole or lansoprazole will stop the acid production so making it painless.
