dd is 10 months, had a temp since yesterday morning. Very bad night. Been giving calpol and ibuprofen alternately. She has v high temp towards when next med is due but moderate temp even when dosed up still.
Took to dr this morning and ears, throat, chest all fine.
Has got hotter since then.
Wwyd? Can a dr do anything if I take her back seeing as she was already checked over this morning?
Have to travel on Friday for quite a way by car and really want to help her get better by then!!

Sorry x-post. Let us know how you get on.

Get them to check her urine.

Well dr didn't seem too worried at all!
Her temp was 39.3 taken by the dr. I explained she is maxed out now on meds till 6.30am and he said fine, she wil be more uncomfortable and maybe sick but the temp will help her body fight the virus.

Just gotta put flannel on her head, windows open etc and wait it out
She is feeding now and hopefully will fall asleep after and we can both get some rest before the long night ahead!

That's good. Hope I didn't worry you but at least now you can relax a little. If you get concerned though take her to a&e regardless of doc advice. x

Poor things - hope you have a better night tonight.

I take you have totally stripped her down and only covered her with a light sheet? It could help a little to get temperature down. Also, if you are co-sleeping then don't be too close to her, so your bodyheat doesn't make her hotter.

Mind you, it is a good sign that she is feeding! Drinking will also help. You say she is maxed out on medicine till tomorrow morning, does that even include the calpol (I thought they could get four doses in 24 hours or not at her age?).

I find that with calpol it can take up to 1 hour to see a reduction in fever, whereas with calprofen usually within 20 minutes (doesn't mean fever goes away but it is less than before).

Hope you both get some sleep.

Can I just say please don't use a combination of wet flannels and fans to bring a temperature down.

They will quickly bring down the temperature of peripheral areas (toes, feet, legs, arms, hands) and confuse the body into thinking it has gone into shock, therefore it will raise it's core temperature even further.

Antipyretics, stripped down clothing and a cool breeze/fan should be sufficient on their own, NOT the wet flannels too.

Oh poor dd hope she feels better soon, I don't think the actual temperture matters tbh, my ds1 had a temperature of over 40 and was dismissed by NHS direct as teething. Infact I think they were probably right, he was fine, or some kind of virus.

I am with nosleep, I don't use a thermometer, we all know if our Children have a fever or not, it's the other symptoms I go by whether to pop to the Dr's or A&E or whatnot. I think instinct is more important than the temperature
